Peak #50 – A Walk In The Park With A Man’s Best Friend

The end was approaching fast and it was time to use my “safety net” Peaks. Today was a walk in the park and I took man’s best friend along, Charlie!

Charlie dog and I had done Mt Richardson (1,047m) before so I knew he was capable of the walk.

We started early to so we could make it back for lunch and enjoy the afternoon. With that, conditions were cold and frosty as we left the car. There had been some rain over the previous days making the track a bit soggy in parts.

Starting off in the mud and trees

Supporting my statement was a massive landslip 1/3 of the way up! An impressive amount of land had slipped and shifted 50 meters down the hillside. This made for an interesting traverse as it was still incredibly muddy and loose underfoot!

After safely crossing the slip we crossed the last water source for Charlie then started the climbing.

We were making good time and it wasn’t long until we reached overnights freezing level and the ground became rather crunchy under foot!

Charlie at the top looking for the sun

Approaching the top we found ourselves walking on snow just showcasing how cold things had been lately. Albeit scattered, snow is snow.

Cresting the final pinch there was definitely more snow, especially in the shaded aspects of the hill.

Photos were taken and we found a nice bush to sunbathe and have a bite to eat on.

Cold but sunny!

The sun felt amazing but Charlie was starting to cool off so up we hopped and started our descent.

I was very surprised with just how many people were out heading to the top as we descended. Then I realised it was school holidays so a lot of people have time off.

Low lying cloud in the Lee’s Valley

Back at the car I dried Charlie off for him to sunbathed on his mat in the car while I jumped into clean clothes.

A nice quick win, two Peaks to go….
